Prokopis Mavridis is a Principal Datacenter Architect at Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation, where he designs the resilient, scalable and energy-efficient buildings that power AI and cloud services across EMEA. He is the first-ever — and currently the only — Principal Architect in Microsoft EMEA, a milestone that reflects both his technical leadership and his strategic influence on how hyperscale data centres are designed and delivered across the region.
He serves as Civils, Structures & Architecture (CSA) Leader for the Nordics subregion, steering the architectural and engineering direction of Microsoft’s most demanding cold-climate campuses, and as Microsoft’s EMEA LEED & Sustainability Champion, driving green-building certification and embodied-carbon initiatives that align cutting-edge infrastructure with environmental responsibility.
Prokopis began his career in architecture, developing deep expertise in building physics, daylight modelling and sustainable design before moving into the mission-critical sector. Over 20 years — the last 16 in the UK — he has led projects from inception to completion on site (RIBA Stages 1–6), spanning data centres for every major technology client, bespoke aviation work including Stansted Airport’s New Arrivals Terminal, and landmark cultural buildings such as Tate St Ives and the Southbank Centre. Today he bridges architecture, engineering and digital infrastructure, delivering solutions that set new benchmarks for mission-critical design, energy efficiency and hyperscale datacenters while mentoring teams to innovate with purpose.
